“Untergrund“, 1998
Die Künstlerin PetraEveline Dahmen beschäftigt sich schon seit Langem mit den Phänomenen der Metropolen und möchte nun in ihrer neuen BilderSerie die verschwindende und verschlossene Existenz der Unterwelt als Zeichen des 20. Jahrhunderts entziffern. Sie versucht, die von Menschen geschaffene Architektur der Unterwelt mit ihren endlosen Tunneln, Gängen und Schächten in all ihren Facetten wahrzunehmen.
Als malende Urbanistikforscherin und Archivarin des Stillstands setzt die Künstlerin in ihren Bildern fraktale Formen ein, die an die Chaostheorie angelehnt sind, um sich von der linearen euklidischen Geometrie der von Menschen geschaffenen Welt abzuheben. Diese Formensprache zieht sie aus ihren Wahrnehmungen und Eindrücken der urbanen Landschaften, die sie umgeben.
The artist PetraEveline Dahmen has long been concerned with the phenomena of metropolises and now wants to decipher the disappearing and closed existence of the underworld as a sign of the 20th century in her new series of pictures. She attempts to perceive the man-made architecture of the underworld with its endless tunnels, corridors and shafts in all its facets.
As a painting urbanist researcher and archivist of stasis, the artist uses fractal forms in her paintings, inspired by chaos theory, to contrast with the linear Euclidean geometry of the man-made world. She draws this formal language from her perceptions and impressions of the urban landscapes that surround her.
